DON’T CHANGE TOO MUCH

Starting on the journey to clean eating can be very intimidating. There is so much information out there to digest, it is hard to know where to start. Not to mention the different ideas on what healthy eating looks like and vastly contradicting opinions on what to prioritorise in your diet.

I am so far from being an expert, but I do sincerely want to learn. I want to do my best to look after the body I have. Most of all I want to have fun achieving that goal. I want to enjoy food and the power it has to give my body strength and connect people. I do though, have limitations. There are limits to my finances, time and even my self discipline. I have to find ways to work within these boundaries.

Clean Eats 101 will be filled with ideas that have helped me to get started on my personal journey to eating healthier and stay on track. I hope they will equip you to do the same. I’m not sure how I formed this first idea, as I’m generally an all or nothing person. However, early on in my journey, I decided to change one thing at a time. This is strange, because I am a serious ‘multi-tasker’, but this philosophy has served me well.

In light of this, if I can give you one piece of advice to help you start your journey, it would be: DON’T OVERWHELM YOURSELF. Don’t change too many things at a time. For me the first two habits I worked on, as strange as it sounds, was flossing my teeth every night and walking along the promenade twice a week. Both of these were habits I know I should have been doing already, but I wasn’t. Now I can’t go to sleep unless I floss, I haven’t had a filling in years and I mountain bike for an hour 2 – 3 times a week in winter. Looking back to how much I have grown as a person and how much bigger my capacity is, both mentally and physically for exercise and health is really rewarding.

You might overwhelm yourself and give up if you are unrealistic with your capacity/energy for change. Just pick one or two habits you would like to start/change and focus sincerely on those for a month.
